HONEYMOON TRIP IN MALDIVES, DAY 1

Maldives, officially the Republic of Maldives, is a South Asian island country, located in the Indian Ocean, situated in Arabian Sea. It lies southwest of Sri Lanka and India. The chain of 26 atolls stretches from Ihavandhippolhu Atoll in the north to the Addu City in the south. The Maldives is one of the world’s most geographically dispersed countries, as well as the smallest Asian country by both land area and population. Male is the capital and most populated city, traditionally called the “King’s Island” for its central location. Maldives is a Muslim country and their local currency is Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR).

I feel excited on this trip as it is the first time that I will travel with my hubby. Yey! Although we were exhausted after our wedding preparation and celebration, we were able to take a rest during our flight (we were sleeping during the entire flight).

Initially, I was a bit hesitant to go to this place as it is quite expensive considering that we have some expenses after our wedding. But my husband convinced me that it is just once in a lifetime experience. So when I am convinced to pursue it, I booked our hotel using booking.com. We booked our stay in one of the beautiful island of Maldives, Paradise Island Resort. It is about 9.6km away from Velana International Airport (Male) and takes 15-20 minutes by speedboat. With 62 water bungalows and 220 beach bungalows, total 282 rooms all with modern 5 star facilities. The island is 931m in length and 201m width. The staffs are friendly and accommodating. I recommend this island resort based on my personal experience.

During our stopover in Bandaranaike International Airport (Colombo), I noticed that most of the passengers are couple and are on holiday mood. So if you want to get here, it is better to travel with someone special to you because the setting is really romantic. J

Velena International Airport

Counters outside the airport

We arrived at Velana International Airport around 9:00am. When we got out from the immigration, we noticed that there are a lot of people holding placards. The hotel advised us to go to Villa Hotels counter no. 16 just outside the main terminal where their staff can assist us join the boat to the hotel.  It was easy to find because the airport is just small J After talking to their staff, we were requested to wait for other passengers going to the hotel.

We arrived in the hotel before 10:00am. We were greeted with white sand beach, deep blue sea, water villas, green trees… everything was picture perfect. We immediately take out our phone to capture some photos.

Boardwalk going to Paradise Island Resort

While we are waiting in the reception area, they offered a welcome drink (lemon mint in crushed ice), it is very refreshing. As there are many guests, we need to wait a little longer and while waiting for the availability of the room, we managed to take few shots within the area. Around 12:00pm, the room is available and they have given us a key and a leaflet as a guide in the island.

The Beach Bungalow we booked is quite big with a mini sala inside and a resting area in front facing the beach (seeing the beach and sea is so relaxing). It has two doors, one in front and one at the backside (where we enter).

After resting and eating our lunch we started to explore the beautiful island. We started to stroll in the white sand. The sun was not hot and few people were swimming in the beach. We walked around until we reached their Water Villas (40), Haven villas (16), Haven Suites (4) and Ocean Suites (2). We saw the Farumathi Restaurant (Chinese Seafood) located at the end of the oceans villas.  The view was so extravagant and the sound of waves was like a sweet music in the ear. It was amazing. We took as many pictures as we can.

As we explore the place, we also saw that there are plenty of indoor activities to engage in such as basketball, badminton, table tennis, lawn tennis, squash, billiard, volleyball and you can use the gymnasium, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam bath. We decided to try them tomorrow morning.

While roaming a little bit more, we arrived at the Hulhangu Bar (Main Bar) where we saw the White Smoke band getting ready for their performance for that night. We asked for the time of their performance, took some photos and roam a little bit more until we reached the swimming pool just beside the bar.

Around 9:30pm, we were able to see the performance of the White Smoke band while sipping my cocktail. It was a pleasant atmosphere as the sea breeze was a little cold.  The sound of the band is more of a reggae type and not rock so I enjoyed listening to them. Although their words were not clear but it is fine, I just like the sound they play.

After spending an hour in the bar, we went back to our room and make our itinerary for the next day. We praised God for the strength and experience for today.

God bless us more J
